R&D capability

The Shandong Province Key Laboratory of Engine Piston Friction Pairs was established in 2011. After more than ten years of construction, it has improved the technical level of China in the aspects of technological research and development and special equipment research and development in the piston friction pair industry, broken the monopoly of foreign companies on China's piston friction pair industry, and promoted the development of China's engine parts industry. 

 

 

Research and Development Sites and Equipment Conditions:

The laboratory has a construction area of 2,087 square meters and owns 37 sets of major large-scale instruments and equipment, including multiple sets of bench test and measurement systems, piston individual test systems, multiple sets of material research and development testing machines and scanning electron microscopes, etc. Among them, there are 19 sets of large-scale instruments and equipment worth over one million yuan, and 18 sets of other equipment. It has the leading domestic and foreign means of comprehensive performance test and evaluation for pistons as well as the ability of material research and development.

It has obvious advantages in aspects such as internal combustion engine bench tests, piston individual tests, piston numerical simulation analysis, especially in temperature measurement of the TEMP-PLUG piston moving components, evaluation of knocking noise of piston moving components, and thermal fatigue testing of piston combustion chambers. The whole-machine test capacity can meet the bench test requirements of diesel engines with a power below 480 kW and a torque below 2,500 Nm as well as gasoline engines with a power below 250 kW and a torque below 597 Nm.

The laboratory has passed the national certification of the national CNAS laboratory accreditation system organization, and its test capacity meets the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. 

 

 

Research and Development Team Situation:

There are currently 48 professional and technical personnel in the laboratory, among whom 26 are personnel with a title of associate senior engineer or above, and 6 are post-doctoral researchers who are still in the workstation.

Liu Shiying serves as the director of the provincial key laboratory. Academician Xie Youbai from the Chinese Academy of Engineering is the director of the Academic Committee of the provincial key laboratory. Zhang Guohua is the deputy director of the Academic Committee of the provincial key laboratory. Professor Li Guoxiang from Shandong University and Professor Zhang Weizheng from Beijing Institute of Technology are the technical consultants of the provincial key laboratory. 

 

 

Main Research Directions:

1. Direction of Piston Friction Pair Product Design and Process
This research direction applies system software such as piston CAD/CAE/CAPP/CAM, UG, and GLIDE. In the product research and development system, through product data management (PLM), it conducts finite element analysis and motion analysis of pistons, carries out the design and research and development of new products. Then, combined with the laboratory's material research and development system and product manufacturing system, it comprehensively analyzes the quality and performance of products to develop high-performance internal combustion engine pistons.

2. Direction of Piston Friction Pair Material Research
This research direction mainly utilizes the laboratory's advanced testing equipment and analysis software to study the high-temperature bearing strength, wear resistance, fatigue strength, linear expansion coefficient, and metallographic structure of materials, etc. It develops a piston material system that suits the development trend of internal combustion engines and applies it to the actual production process.

3. Direction of Engine Comprehensive Performance Test and Evaluation
This research direction comprehensively monitors the performance parameters of the engine by applying the engine comprehensive measurement and control system, the emission testing system, and the noise analysis system, and conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the engine friction pairs. It has improved the piston friction pair test database, optimized the piston friction pairs in terms of reliability, lightweight, energy conservation, and environmental protection, and thus enhanced the comprehensive performance of the engine.
